Executive VP & Managing Director
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), Asia, Zuffa LLC
Hong Kong (2006)
Mr. Mark Fischer, Executive Vice President & Managing Director, UFC (Asia) earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and a master’s degree in public administration from Harvard University. While living in Brjing, he was a key figure in the development of NBA China, a NBA corporate entity valued at more than $2 billion. Upon joining UFC Mr. Fischer said he was “delighted and honored to work with (UFC president) Dana and the Fertitta brothers (co-owners Frank and Lorenzo) to build the Ultimate Fighting Championship and our other businesses in Asia. It’s a fantastic market. I think we’re just scratching the surface. A lot martial arts began their tradition there. We’re very respectful of that.” While some North American-based sports organizations have failed internationally, Fischer thinks the UFC can thrive. “I was with the NBA in Asia for 12 years,” he said. “Five or six of those were building the NBA in China. I think as successful as the NBA was there, what we were able to do with that, I think we can just as much with the UFC and more.” And while China appears the primary target, Fischer sees other parts of the continent as potential growth areas.
“I think we’re going to study the market,” he said.”Definitely China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Southeast Asia. All of these countries have tremendous potential. There’s been tremendous interest, tremendous activity in MMA, and I think it’s a question of bringing the UFC brand there and the way we do things being the global leader in the sport.”
